Getting distracted for something bigger
“Did you see that?”
Jenna looked around. “No. What am I looking for?”
Yelena smiled and replied: “Never mind. Just my imagination.”
“Hmph.”
“You really didn’t see it?”
Jenna sighed with annoyance. “I see nothing.”
“You are missing it.”
Jenna stared towards where Yelena was looking at.
“I don’t know what you mean! I really don’t see anything.”
“Maybe you were not meant to see it.”
“If you say so.”
Yelena laughed for a brief moment.
“What’s so funny?”
“That it’s directly in front of you and you cannot see it.” Yelena said.
“Are you okay?” Jenna wondered.
“Perfectly fine.”
Yelena’s eyes continued to stare at the distance. Jenna shook her head as she followed Yelena’s stare. She felt frustrated.
“Look, I don’t know what you are staring at but I see nothing.”
Yelena burst into laughter, like she could no longer hold it in. “This is just too much. I can’t do this anymore.”
Jenna felt alarmed. “What do you mean?”
“I’m just kidding! There was nothing. I was trying to keep you distracted.”
“Huh? I don’t understand?”
“And yet, he still desires you!” Yelena said dramatically.
That is when Jenna felt someone behind her. She slowly turned, her blood turning cold. She saw who it was. His eyes, blue and with determination. Jenna sighed in relief.
“Mitch? What’s going on?”
“Thanks for helping me out,” Mitch said to Yelena.
“No problem.”
He bent down on one knee and said: “Marry me. I love you.!”
Jenna covered her mouth in surprise. Tears fell from her face as joy erupted from within.
“Oh my, Mitch, yes! I love you too!”
Then there was music and balloons. They embraced, sealing their engagement with a kiss. Soon she would marry her best friend.
