Remembering why we celebrate July 4th. A Poetry Topic Entry (Form: Wrapped Refrain)
We The People ...

Profound ideal; each common word
clearly said, meanings unblurred;
poetic particles of dust
that formed a nation built on trust
in God. A pact for common good with freedom's seal
affixed, its message understood - profound ideal.

Though time has passed, it still shines bright,
its sweeping words a guiding light
to those who seek freedom from strife;
to those who hunger for a life
where each may succeed, regardless of their caste.
Freedom's staff still stands as strong though time has passed.

In each man's heart, the flame lives on
as from the gauzy past are drawn
their words, like a clarion's call
that bids welcome to one and all.
Their ideals mirrored as brightly as at the start;
they can't be extinguished; they live in each man's heart.
