Sometimes the truth isn't always the best policy. |
"I'll take care of everything. Just get out of here." " Are you sure? I don't want to get you in trouble. " "Let me worry about that. Go now, " Gillespie ordered. Morgana nodded. Gathering her sword she fled from the room and down the corridor, leaving Gillespie with a corpse and blood on his hands. "What's going on here?" Commander Somner's booming voice demanded, resonating off the stone walls, making him sound even louder than he usually did. Gillespie stood, straightening his uniform. "I found him like this," he replied, his words sounding hollow to his own ears. "I suppose it was just a matter of time before someone made him pay for his cruelty." Somner said, with a shrug. One look at the placement of the wounds told him all he needed to know, unfortunately the fool's father was high enough in rank that he couldn't sweep this under the carpet. He needed to think, perhaps he could find a way to give the fool a hero's death. He certainly saw now reason to lose a good soldier over it, especially one that appeared willing to take the blame for Somner's daughter. "Return to your unit, don't breathe a word to anyone. I'll take care of everything." (Word count 207) |
