Trying to make notes of the Gospel
Mathew Chapter 2- Day2
The prophetic saying of Rachel weeping, when Herod ordered for the killing of the babies;
I'm sure this was something that had happened in the past with someone called Rachel and history repeated itself. But why did the Bible refer to it as a prophetic saying?
Does it mean that prophecy is not necessarily about saying a new thing about a particular person, but rather the repetition of a past event on another person?
Why did Herod ask the wise men what time they had seen the star? Was it just for information or he was already formulating a plan B in mind? Or he wanted to know how old the child was and when his kingship would be legalized or accepted?
The wise men being divinely warned in a dream might mean that a voice spoke to them or some other form of communication aside Angels, went on between them and God in a dream. Because everyone who received an angelic visit had it mentioned as such. But why didn't the wise men get an angel? Is it that all those directly linked to Jesus and God were the ones with the angelic visit? Or for those who surrender their lives to be with God? As compared to the wise men who went back to their lives afterwards?
You know how they keep referring to prophetic sayings here? This is what credits us to pray some of the prayers in the bible like the Psalms which may have been for David and applied to him, but can apply to us also. He is versatile.
We notice again how God moved the holy family from Judea to Egypt and back to Judea. There was something of that sort in chapter one. The back and forth movement.
It's like, after the wise men came from the East to the star, they became the new star, giving the direction of travel for Jesus. He was supposed to go to the East and die there. Maybe we'll find out the reason for this later. But instead of the wise men using the normal route to the East, they used a different route to go back home.
The Holy family moved from Bethlehem to Egypt on their West and returned to their East to Nazareth where He grew.

I think God's actions are in 3 major parts; The Idea, The Mess and God's Plan/Fulfilment.
