A brief thought about children growing up
THIS IS A DRAFT -- NOT YET FIT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION

It has been a long, tedious, and sometimes hard road to my empty nest, BUT I believe that I am ready for it!

I have no more battle cries. No defensive mechanism. No more warnings while putting up barriers. My four adult children have already proved that they can stand on their own two feet. I think (not that I've listened) they have told me in so many ways that they are ready to take care of me.

If the truth is told, I have clung to this with all of my heart and soul in a desperate attempt to keep my nest full, warm, safe, and happy. I have shielded them from this mean old world with all of my strength, no how, training, and female intuition, and one day when I was not looking they all flew the nest.
