The Beginning of a Story

The sailboat listed (?) far to the port side as it was battered by a sudden large wave directly on its side. Water poured over their heads with a sound and fury as angry as the thunder that roared around them in the churning green and black sky. Clinging to (?) they fell first toward the sea and then smashed against the bottom of the boat as it righted itself as roughly as it had been hit.
