Eels delight
The day was hot and there was a lovely river where the water flowed gently and was no more than knee-deep all across.
We were picnicking there one hot summer day and my 10-year-old daughter was having a lovely time with her friends in the shallows.
As they played happily a large truck with a huge tank backed up to the river.
They paid little attention to it till the driver opened a chute and out came a lot of water and something else.
The delighted girls trekked over to the truck to see what it had spilled into the river.
Suddenly there was a shrieking and splashing.
This was the time they discovered the load was, in fact, thousands of eels from the department of conservation They were standing in shallow water with hundreds of wriggly slimy eels around their ankles.
