This is written in celebration of Dr. Seuss' (Theodore Seuss Giesel's) 115th birthday. |
Dr. Seuss, bless your birth! I have something to say, "You're a man of great worth, that still lasts to this day!" We're still learning to read generations and all. Creativity freed for the old and the small. There's the cat in his hat, who just frolics with kids, but now parents have sat, just like new ones he bids. Then, there's Sam of the plate who would force you to eat. Maybe green would be great for your eggs and ham treat. What would Christmas yet be without Whoville's great loss? Someone's Grinching a tree, all the presents to toss. When to Grinchy's dismay ev'ry child in such joy sees his crying display, and new heart to employ Wisdom learned from your pen, that has authored great thoughts brings the Mean One to mend, while the fam'lies are taught. Dr. Seuss, bless your birth! You've had something to say through your days here on Earth with your wit and your play! O, the places we've gone through your joy and your mirth. Seems the learning is done by your hope, a new birth. When the Fox in his socks makes the living to dance, then we'll scale highest rocks for your visage to glance. by Jay O'Toole on March 4th, 2019 |
