Let my brilliance fade
I have been trying to die every day of my life,
While you breathe onto my lips willingness to live.
I am torn by your will to press forward,
And my desire to lie here.

Why must this contention even exist?
Take this from me,
Kiss it away from my lips;
Hold onto my bones as my spirit you lift.

I want to fade like the sun as it sets,
My radiant beauty boasting of life as it slips.
But you would rather I be like the dawn;
That I rise and awaken the world as it yawns.

Why have you designed me to set and yet cause me to rise?
Why must I live when I'm begging to die?
I don't know why yet and my smile is rye,
As I recall all the reasons I'm tethered to time.
