Another silly take on a Writer's Cramp prompt
It was the thirty-first day of October
The night they called All Hallow’s Eve
I was home alone, in my tiny abode
Doing nothing, and so I was pleased.

The kiddies would come in the evening
And knock knock knock on the door,
But I would refuse to answer—
Giving treats was too much of a chore.

So I planned a quiet evening,
Just me and my cat Mr. Timms,
I turned off the lights, bolted the door,
plopped down on the sofa, and grinned.

When alas there was a rap at my window!
Twas a ghostly figure in green!
A kid on the search for candy-
Or at least that’s what it would seem.

“Go away, boy! I’m not at your service
For candies on this All Hallow’s Eve.
I’m looking for peace and tranquility
So please won’t you just leave me be!”

But this was no boy dressed in green;
he floated on in through the wall!
“I am the ghost of All Hallow’s Eve
And your attitude won’t do at all!”

“The kiddies are lined up outside,
In costumes and with bags galore!
You’ll fill their bags with treats and eats
Or I’ll haunt you from this day onward!”

The ghost wouldn’t have to repeat himself
Because I got up straight away!
I threw open the door, and greeted the hoards
And his command I made sure to obey!

I gave the kids all the candy
I gave them more than their due
And when the last one had gone, my phantom was done,
He turned and whispered “thank you”.
