A short essay on the scripture translated from the original language. |
Ephesians 6:2 - "τίμα τὸν πατέρα σου καὶ τὴν μητέρα, ἥτις ἐστὶν ἐντολὴ πρώτη ἐν ἐπαγγελίᾳ," Translated: "Honor the father and the mother of you, which is the first commandment with a promise." This of course is one of the ten commandments. And the promise is given that if you do honor your father and mother your days will be long here. But these days there is a bit of a problem. Children are presented with media that makes teens seem geniuses and parents seem idiots. Programs they watch encourages teens that they know more than their parents, that they are more wise, they go to their peers fo advice, not understanding that their peers have no more life experience than they do, and that it is their parents who have the experience. They do this because they are seeking approval from their peers for what they WISH to do, not answers as to what would be right or best. But parents also make it very difficult for their children to honor them. In these years when divorce is rampant and parents bicker back and forth, how does a child honor both when they are in the middle? When children are used by parents who wish to get back at the other parent? When parents take away the ability for children to regard both equally, they take away a child's ability to honor father AND mother. They take away the child's ability to easily follow the commandment. Everything we see here today in this world which is becoming less and less like the world of scripture is designed to lead man astray into the hands of the enemy. The most important thing as a parent is to NEVER take away the ability of a child to love the other parent, and a child should take care to realize that their friends do not have the experience in life to properly advise them, and that it is their parents who are the best source when they have a problem. Family in scripture is far different than family we see in the world today. We should move back to being families rather than roommates. |
