How the church responds to brokenness
The Good Samaritan

A woman walks in to a stained glass crowd
worn down by the struggles in her life.
And though she begs for a listening ear,
they turn their backs on her strife.

“You’re too messed up and broken.
We don’t want to dirty our hands.”
So she walks away shunned and crying once more,
saying, “No one understands.”

In her hour of desperate need of hope
and comfort that she’s not alone,
she is met with judgmental glances
more cold and cutting than stone.

Rather than love her like Jesus,
they simply cast her aside,
further ingraining in her the lie
that her fear and sorrow she must hide.

Oh church of Christ, when will you wake up
from this damaging slumber so deep
and realize this frightened little flock
you are tasked to safely keep?

How many will you turn away,
showing only disgust and rejection?
How dare you spit on the message of hope-
Christ’s love and resurrection?

Remember the parable of the Good Samaritan
and the mercy he freely showed.
He gave kindness and care to one left for dead
when others passed by on the road.

It’s time for us to take a stand
and say, “Enough! No more!”
“From now on we vow
to open our hearts and doors.”
