For a flash fiction contest using "lemon", "song" and "fire"
Mike Anders was a "super" salesman. Just last week he had sold a Corvette to a little old lady. His commissions at Valley Motors were far above the others and he couldn't be prouder. When he saw the young couple come on the lot, he said to the sales team "Hey, watch this! I'll bet you I can sell them that lemon of an SUV – guaranteed"!

As Jim and Jessica Hopewell walked in, Mike was already walking toward them with a big smile on his face. "Hi, I'm Mike Anders and boy do I have a deal for you! See this SUV? Let's fire this baby up. Listen to that engine – that's like an angel's song! This is the perfect car for you and I can give you a great deal on it – only $24,999 but only for today! What do you say?"

Jim looked at Jessica then at Mike and said, "We'd love that car, but we just got married and we have a baby on the way and neither of us has a job right now. We sold most of our wedding gifts and we have $600 so if you could just show us something cheap, we'd appreciate it".

For the first time in his life, Mike was speechless. When he and Karen were about that age, they'd been in the same situation. The man that sold them their first car at a very good price was Mike's inspiration for becoming a salesman.

"Look", Mike said, "You don't need that car, You need this one. The sticker says $2,500, but you can have it for $500. Jim and Jessica were thrilled and Mike (who paid the other $2,000 out of his own pocket) had never been so happy to lose a bet and a big sale.
