The Metro was efficient and surprisingly clean and free of garbage and indigent people. Most of the people were going about their day, busy looking at their phones or staring blankly at nothing. Some were sleeping. The thudding and screeching of the wheels on the tracks broke the tense silence produced by packing strangers together.
