I cancelled it this year, and should have done so long ago.
I'm sure a good many people will support my reasons:
Christmas has become a costly business, and a business it is, for those shops crowded with people and their credit cards.
December is a time of the year when people are tired. They become frazzled simply at the thought of thinking up novel gift ideas; they become frenzied searching for them in the packed malls; they feel flattened by the idea of preparing an extraordinary meal for Christmas day and keeping up the pretense of gaiety as the guests enjoy themselves and the dishes pile up.
If you want to buy gifts and make other people happy, do it for those poor souls who would otherwise not receive a present. This can be done at any time of the year. Get the family involved, and teach them about charity.
