Written for my Professor
Sole Survivor - J.G. Suero
The ground was layered with bone and flesh
In ways that man do not think mesh,
And there Grant hid with great delay,
For he had thought he would not stay
Alive if he had moved an inch.
The lad was beaten, and in a pinch
For war had left it's mark on him,
The battlefield was looking grim.
The heavens shined down in great dismay
As though they wished a different day
Had blessed them with a peaceful time
But rather - indeed they saw such grime.
Grant would live to tell the tale
With scars that nightly made him wail,
He'd come to think about his friends
Who all did meet untimely ends,
And think what life for him would be
He sees a life, tranquility.
This past allows him to revive
For he is one, who did survive.
