Simple things make a huge difference, and sometimes simple things are taken for granted. |
It’s a reboot, An adjustment, A ‘j’adoube’ in Chess. Today, in the midst of all the crazy, When events made deep creases appear on my forehead, This happened... I heard you, love, before I saw you. My ears tuned in, responding to your voice in spite of all of theirs. My eyes turned to see your face as you walked in my direction, my smile forming. You lifted your arm and I fit under your shoulder resting my head over your heart for a second, absorbing the peace, eyes closed. The smell you, the warm heady scent that is just yours, that is your hair your skin your clothes your soap. I breathed it in. Finally, I tasted you, a quick kiss, a featherlight touch of lips on skin that soothed as it revived. The whole thing took maybe two or three moments. But because of you I felt renewed. And just like that, you saved my day. It’s taken it for granted, this quick refill of the senses that seems to center things again. So let us take a moment to bow our heads in silence, and give thanks for moments like these. (Toni Favilli, 2016) |
