The Day I was Rescued!

Two months have passed since my mother left this world. It still seems like a dream and I will wake up just any moment. I walk

around in a fog, floating through my days and not sleeping through the night. Surely things will get easier, or at least I will be able to

sleep through the night without waking up every hour. I just can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. Not yet.

Saturday morning I was sitting at the kitchen table drinking my coffee and reading emails, when my husband walks in and asks if I felt

like getting out and doing something today. I looked at him with a puzzled look and asked, "What do you have in mind?"

He said he thought it would be a good day for the flea market! So, I drug myself into the bedroom and just threw some clothes on,,

pulled my hair up and walked out saying, "I am ready!" He looked at me and said, "What? No make up?" I told him, "I don't feel like

fixing myself up today. Let's just go."

He pulled the truck out of the garage and waited for me to load up. We listen to music while riding down the highway, and of course,

my mind is wandering, not really paying attention to anything around me. I guess he is used to that by now, because he just drives

and sings along with the music. It is almost like he has a secret and is happy about what's going to happen today.

When we arrive at the flea market, I am looking out across the parking lot at all of the vendors setting up for the day. My interest is

not what is going to be offered for sale today, but rather, when will we be leaving. I am hoping that he doesn''t want to walk the entire

market today!

We began looking at the outside booths. He is looking for some kind of tool or something. I am not really sure, because I don't pay

attention when he tells me stuff like that. So, I just follow him up and down the rows, table after table. It seems like we will never get

to the end of the last row! I am getting anxious and really ready to just leave. But my husband is determined to keep me out there for

a while and try to get my mind on something beside my grief. We rounded the end of the last row and just about ready to go inside

the buildings when I noticed a van backed up to the walkway. The back of the van is lifted and there are 3 small dog kennels filled with

puppies! Well, if I have a weakness, it is animals...especially dogs! I walk over to the van, without even saying a word to my

husband.

As I approach the van, I notice there are 3 different litters of pups...all of them are different colors of pit bulls, my favorite breed of

dog! I really don't remember looking at all of the pups, because as soon as I saw him, I reached for him and my heart melted! This

blue pit puppy with the bluest eyes I have ever seen laid his head on my chest and snuggled into me. I turned around to find my

husband, and he was already standing right behind me. I looked up at him and the tears began to flow! He said, "Make them an

offer!" I can't believe my ears!

I went home that day with tears in my eyes and a smile on my face because I knew in my heart that I just found my life again!
