children's story about a spider. |
A Harvest Spider Named Mary. A Harvest Spider named Mary whose body was ever so hairy, and her boyfriend named Reg who had long hairy legs, were married one day by a fairy. Now Mary and Reg and his long hairy legs set off on their Honeymoon. They made a web on the back of a tortoise named Jack, and he took them wherever he roamed. Jack said just to please ya' we'll tour Polynesia where Honeybees go for vacation. We'll bask in the breeze and we'll eat bread and cheese, we'll visit some distant relations. As the warmth and the haze of the long summer days slowly dwindled away into fall. The spiders danced on as the harvest moon shone, and Jack whistled a tune as he crawled. Said Mary to Reg I must quickly lay eggs to ensure there's a new generation. For the hour grows late Jack will soon hibernate, he's been wonderful cheap transportation. But a tortoise lives long though the poor spiders song is as short as the warm summer days. By the change of the tide both the spiders had died, and the tortoise had gone on his way. With a tiny egg sack still fixed to his back, the lonely old tortoise sat down. Then crickety crack from the sack on Jack's back, babies hatched then they jumped to the ground. Jack laughed and giggled, howled like a hound, made such hysterical sounds. For all of the babies were covered with hair, and they tickled as they ran around. One hundred and seven had long hairy legs, the rest were all covered with hair. But a love of free travel and tortoise and cheese, were the things every one of them shared. |
