Sable and Kimba learn a little bit about the scale they found and meet a odd scientist
A few minutes later, the two were driving down the street in Sable's car making their way to the lab to get that scale tested so they could possibly get some sort of idea of what they were dealing with. Kimba looked out the window as the buildings went by, vehicles were somewhat of a luxury, with oil running out not too long after the Great War, commercial and private vehicles alike were converted to a solar powered engine, and with materials to make them being so scarce, they were rather expensive to make. Mostly those who lived to the center city and of high standing had them, and with Sable being a high ranking detective on the DelMane Police Force, he was able to have one given to him.

Kimba then looked over to Sable; he had a calm expression on his face as he concentrated on the road. She wondered what he was thinking right now, it was do hard to read him sometimes, and he never let his emotions come out too often, always said they got in the way of his thinking,

"Hey, um, Sable?" She asked in a nervous manner,

"Yes, Kimmy?" Sable replied, his eyes darting over to her then back to the road,

"Um, is it really that you've never worked on anything involving hybrids?"

He thought about it for a moment before replying,

"Uh... ya I guess, though I have done some lead follow-ups for hybrids that were on the force and few times that involved me going to question some, but it was never anything too dangerous, why do you ask?" The cat then looked back out the window for a moment,

"Well... aren't you worried."

"About what?" Sable glanced over to her before looking back forward,

"I don't know..." Kimba looked back at him then continued,

"What if something happens... during this case?" Sable let out a chuckle,

"Kimba, you worry too much, we don't even know what this scale belongs to, for all we know, and it could be some kind of animal that got in from the wastes." Then the feline glared at him, her ears folding back,

"But what if it is a hybrid Sable, you're human, what would your parents..."

"That's enough." Sable interrupted her, not wanting this conversation to continue,

"But Sable."

"But nothing, this conversation is over." Kimba just huffed and crossed her arms, not saying anything else.

Sable just sighed, concentrating on the road, he hated being so strict with her, but Kimba tends to let her feelings get the best of her, even if she did have good intentions, the human couldn't let such things get to him, or he wouldn't be able to do his job.

A few minutes later, they pulled up to a large building with multiple floors and across the front in big, bold letters 'EXO Laboratories', with the precinct not having it's own crime lab, they usually outsourced to here, and with generous donations from the city, they gladly do it for free. The two got out of the vehicle and headed inside to a large reception area with various people, some in lab coats, walking about, not paying any mind as Sable and Kimba walked up to the front desk where a cute mouse girl greeted them,

"Hello, welcome to EXO Labs, how may I help you?" Sable pulled out his badge, flashing it at her,

"Sable Crosshairs, DelPD, we've come to have something checked out, this is my partner, Kimba Shortmain." He pointed over to the lioness who waved with a grin, but then her stomach let out a low growl, she had only eaten a few pieces of that jerky and the sight of that mouse was making her hungry which made her unconsciously run her tongue across her lips, which in turn made the deck clerk have a look of shock. Seeing this, Sable just looked over to Kimba, staring down at her with a look of disproval, and seeing this, the she just let out a nervous giggle,

"Heh, sorry."

The detective shook his head as he looked back to the mouse while leaning forward, leaning an arm on the desk,

"Anyways, we were wondering if a Dr. Marcus Denver was available."

Gaining back her composer, the clerk tapped a few keys on her computer,

"Uh, yes we actually got a cal not too long ago saying you would be coming, Dr. Denver is waiting for you in his lab on the third floor." She motioned over to a set of elevators on the far wall.

"Thank you." Sable replied then glanced over to his partner, nodding his head in that direction and the two walked over and entered one to go up.

After a few seconds, the doors slid back open and before them was a long, windowless hallway with doors on each side. Having been here multiple times, Sable walked forward with Kimba following behind. They walked for what seemed like forever when Sable finally stopped at a door at the very end of the long stretched corridor and knocked three times, And from the other side, a deep male voice called out,
"Come on in, it's open." When Sable opened the door, the two were met with a large lab with chemicals and electronics everywhere, and there, with his back to them looking at a computer screen, was a tall, dark skinned human in a white lab coat. He turned at the sound of the officers entering, he looked a little older than Sable,
"Sable my man, what goin' on?"

"Nothin' much, though my partner here gave your new receptionist a scare." Sable replied while holding the door for Kimba and Mark chuckled walking up to them,
"Well, I'm sure that's nothing she could help." He looked at her with a warm smile,
"Isn't that right Miss Kimba?"
"Hi Mark." The lioness beamed back, Mark and Sable go way back, going to the same academy. Though Mark went in a different direction than Sable, he was always happy to help out on a case.

"So what have you got for me today, cigarette butt, half eaten food?" Mark continued as he walked behind a nearby table, resting the palms of his hands on it to prop himself up as he leaned forward.

"Actually, I got somethin' a little different for ya." Sable replied reaching in his coat pocket to pull out the baggie and threw it in front of the doctor, who picked it up to examine it.

"Found that on a body not too long ago and we need to know what exactly that it's from."

Mark raised a brow as he reached for a rubber glove and put it on, then opened the bag, pulling out the contents to look at it closer,

"Well, from an untrained eye, it looks to be a scale from a reptile of some sort."

"We got that much, Mark." Sable crossed his arms, having a very serious look about him,

"What we want to know is if it's from a hybrid or not seeing as how dealing with wild animals isn't in my job description, and before you ask, the victim was human, so it wasn't from them."

"Should be simple enough to find out." Mark took the scale over to a computer and opened up and tray, set it inside, and closed it back, then he punched in some things on the keyboard and looked in a microscope,

"Well, it is hybrid, but... hm, that's odd."

"What is it?" Sable walked up, wondering what he had found.

"I can't quite explain it." Mark replied as he brought up a DNA structure up on a large screen for the two to see,

"This is a sample of regular hybrid DNA and as you can see, it's split fifty-fifty with one half being human DNA and the other being whatever animal they are, and that's how it's always been, but..." He then hit a button on the keyboard to bring up the sample from the scale,

"The animal DNA in this makes up over seventy-five percent of the structure."

"Interesting." The detective said with his hand up to his chin, looking at the screen.
"What would cause something like that?" Kimba spoke up looking to Mark, but the doctor just shrugged his shoulders,
"Who knows, birth defect, outside influence, all I know is that I've never seen anything like it."

Sable thought for a moment, wasn't every day a big case fell into his lap and this just made it even bigger,
"Can you tell us want species of reptile this person is?" He asked, if they could get that much, it might make it easier, but Mark shook his head,
"Not my field Sable, you know that." He replied as he took the scale back out of the machine and handed it back to the detective,
"I only know about human genes and DNA, but you're in luck, we actually hired in a new biochemist that could help, come on, I'll take you to him." Mark made his way to the door and opened it, motioning Sable and Kimba to follow,

"The company hired him on two weeks ago and he's the top of his field in animal genetics." He continued as they walked back down the hallway but stopped halfway down at a door that had a plaque with the name Climmons engraved in it,

"Best part is, he specializes in reptiles." Mark then knocked on the door and there was a sound of clanking glass from the other side,

"Just a second!" A male voice soon called out and the three stood there for a moment as they heard more glass and a loud bang, presumably something being closed, then the door opened and there before then was a man of short stature and far skin, he had short, jet black hair and his hazel eyes were framed in a large pair of glasses,

"Oh, Dr. Denver, what brings you to my door this time of day?" The man asked in a very mild tone, obviously not the people person his colleague was.

"Hey Simon, if you have a minute, was wondering if you could help my two friends here." Mark replied as he stepped aside, holding his hand out to introduce the officers,

"This is Sable Crosshairs and Kimba Shortmain, apart of the DelMane police force, and they have something they could use your help on."

The man looked over to Sable with a look of agitation, not thrilled with being interrupted with his work, but then he glanced at Kimba and his expression changed. He stepped out of the door, walking passed Sable and up to the lioness, taking her hand to shake it rather eagerly,

"Simon Climmons, it's a pleasure to meet you, a friend of Mark's is a friend of mine." He said with a smile at Kimba,

"Um, think you, I guess." She responded with a nervous giggle and smile as she looked to Sable for help.

The detective looked at Simon with a smirk then placed a hand on his shoulder,

"So Simon was it, if you don't mind, we're very busy individuals and would like to get this done as soon as possible."

Simon glanced back at him with a grimace but then let the feline's hand go as he straightened up, not wanting to seem standoffish,

"Yes, of course, where are my manners, please come in." He walked back through the doorway,

"And will you be joining us, Dr. Denver?" He looked to Mark as he held the door open, but the doctor turned to walk away,

"Nah, I actually got to be heading down stairs, they'll be bringing a body here any minute and I gotta get ready for it." He replied as waving to them, heading to the elevator as the two officers stepped into Simon's lab.
