The Shade Chaser

                   "The Shade Chaser"

An approaching solstice inspired a gathering, a new brew fest;
a celebration set in a field found far below forest covered bluffs.
My lawn-chair, the shade chaser,
observed the festivities to be dressed out in regalia of laughter
and summer cheers; accessorized with peace sign symbols.
Small giggles and cotton candy smeared smiles
rallied around the hoola hoops in an arena, dancing in circles.

A colorful palette of tie-dye apparel appeared
meandering among vintage automobiles. Vehicles,
hailed as Beetles and Bugs,
lined up along the perimeter of events;
framing a landscape that began with watercolor washed hues
of cool shadow blues, grassy greens, and sun warmed yellows
breeze brushed by gentle swaying tree-painters.
Accents included an impressionist's idea of a canvas
dotted with white tent covered wares, abstract figures of
oldsters and youngsters, strollers and leashed canine in tow.

A distinct and familiar cloud permeated the crowd;
a steamy mist of aromas teasing with sweet-kettle popcorn,
saucy grilled hot-dogs, savory onion decorated burgers,
lightly laced with the scent of fresh cut wood for the recently
constructed bandstand. The stage stood proudly posed
before the revelers, as loud speakers performed
iconic compositions of folk-rock, country, and bluegrass.

Shifting from shopping, snacking at the eateries,
and downing drinks, tired gaits slurring toward gates closing,
sleepy babies shouldered and covered from the cooler air,
chasing the shade ended
with the day slow dancing into the night under June's bright
and spectacular Strawberry Moon.
