Don't we all love technology? Madge doesn't.
Tech!!
By Stephen A Abell.

Number of Words: 299

“Turn right in 200 yards.”

Madge hated driving. Truth be told, Madge pretty much hated everything about modern lifestyle.

“Turn right in 300 yards.”

Technology was her worst hate though. Computers were taking over the world. To her, they were the Devil’s instrument. A clever diversion to keep the sheep happy and sedated for most of their day. Worse yet, it gave them an over exaggerated sense of worth. She’d once looked at facebook only to wonder how many photographs of ugly babies, selfies, kittens, and food do you really need(?).

“Turn left in 400 yards.”

The most abominable technology was the smartphone and watch. Now the Devil could travel in your pocket or on your wrist.

“Take the second exit at the next roundabout.”

Even this damned rental car had satellite navigation. She’d tried to buy a map for the journey but the agent just laughed, “We’re not in the dark ages, dear”. The smarmy twit then programmed the thing for her.

“Turn left in 200 yards.”

Looking out the windscreen, she revelled in the beauty of the countryside… countryside(?)

Should she have left the city(?). The museum was situated on the opposite side to the airport.

“Stop trying to confuse me,” she mumbled to no one, “just get me to the meeting.”

“Should have bought a map!” The female navigator stated in her even tone.

“What?”

The front wheels thudded over something as the engine died. Madge really hated this car.

From the side window, she saw the rail tracks. As her hand moved to the door lock she heard the mechanical thunk as they engaged and her heart sank.

“Goodbye, Madge. This era really has no place for people like you.”

Madge hated technology.

The train running on computerised autopilot slammed into the driver side door.
