Today, im wearing a new dress
For the sole purpose of wearing it;
I watch myself in the mirror
Seeing the red satin gown gown;
Rippling at my feet as it cascades down.
I stretch my arms and see
That i have miles and miles of skin;
It is dark, soft and beautiful
Even with the scars that blemish it;
Even with the burns it comes with.
I touch my unpainted face;eyes as dark as night
Square jaw and high cheekbones;
A dainty nose that lies low
Pink lips obscuring the teeth;
My imperfect hair to which everyone pays heed.
I am beautiful, that i know
But people say that i am not;
It is perhaps of my chubby cheeks
Or the size of my waist;
they look but never see in their haste.
I take my high heels and put them on
And tuck a lily behind my ear;
No, I am not going anywhere!
I just twirl,laugh and be carefree;
Because today there is no one to judge me.
