Animal spirits or spirited animals.
I once had a neighbor in Kent
whose hummingbird feeder was bent.
A cacophony of crows
she had to suppose
was why the feeder was rent.

The crows ate the corn for the squirrels
while furry tails tightened in curls.
Her aim to clean the garage
became a mirage
as she ran around in whirls.

With murder first in her mind
on her mower she set her behind.
The black birds took flight
with the mower's first bite,
she wasn't going to be kind.

The smell of freshly mown grass
deepened with every pass.
The noise shook the ground
scaring everything around
and the crows disappeared at last.

When quiet, the squirrels came back
munching what was left on their rack.
To open all the windows
and lure back her heroes,
she saw the hummies were on the attack.

They chased the crows through the sky
cause hummies couldn't let them get by
the ruby throated leader
protected their feeder
and sent those black birds bye bye.
