A writer's journey (Form: Free Verse) A Shadows and Light Poetry Entry
Metamorphosis

"When I was a child,
         I spake as a child,
                   I understood as a child,
                             I thought as a child."

The wisdom of time
adds understanding to
childhood lessons.

Like the lowly caterpillar,
I meandered through youth
chewing, gulping, devouring
all that came my way.

Then came the chrysalis years ...
words and images glimmered,
beckoning me to find my wings.
I attached myself to the
branches of poetry.
I grew.

Protected,
         nourished,
                   encouraged,
understanding of words and images
reverberated like my new found wings.

I now soar,
sipping the nectar of others,
finding my own wings
that will carry me
where others have not flown.

The past has been cauterized,
no longer attached
but always remembered.

I am free.
