Two short poems on the theme of STEM |
Our two tabby kittens Know a lot about science They’re not fazed by Instruction Manuals The dishwasher holds no terrors A quick swipe of a paw Sends the blades spinning Curiosity satisfied they leave the loading to me. They’ve dialled my wife from my Iphone Explored the inside of the oven Noting its wattage before calculating Its chicken cooking capacity Digital TV is essential viewing And although they complain It’s not been upgraded to “Touch screen” They’re content to watch repeats of “Morse” Mathematics is not their forte Although they integrate well And can differentiate between The qualities of two competing cat foods. -------------------- I once sat on a hypotenuse Read the log to the base of 10 Got partial with a differential And am irrational about e numbers Try as I may squaring A circle is beyond me String theory ties me in knots And Pulsars leave me dizzy In my younger days I could raise 2 to the power of n Now I can barely lift it I’m Zeno’s tortoise overtaken by age Not Achilles My mother taught me trigonometry My father the secrets of Primes I’ve had my pi and ate it And proved Fermat’s Last Theorem |
