flash fiction entry 2/18 glowing, script, road
Hannah woke up with a pounding headache. She had done so almost every day for the last two years. Sighing she carefully levered herself out of bed and shed clothing on her way to the bathroom. After a quick stop to throw up she stepped into the still cool water of the shower. Pale and shaking Hannah stood there until the water warmed and then cooled again. She hadn’t actually used soap or even a wet rag to clean herself, but at least she felt like most of a human now. She walked to the kitchen and made herself a pot of coffee. Looking at the clock on the stove she saw she was late for work. Again. The cup of hot black liquid accompanied her back into her room to find some semi-clean clothes and touch up last nights makeup. If she could have she would have added something stronger to her cup of joe. Her mother had cleared her out of booze earlier that week though. Something about cleaning up and getting right. ‘Sanctimonious hag’ Hannah thought rebelliously. It’s not like she was drunk 24/7. Lots of adults kept liquor in their houses, why shouldn’t Hannah? Halfway out of her parking lot Hannah realized that she didn’t work on Thursdays. In a moment of good will she decided she would go show her mother just how well she was doing. Instead of turning left towards her mothers house, though, she turned right and headed down to the end of the road. Looking up at the warm glow of the neon lights she read the cursive script happily. Neon Moon. All at once she felt like she was at home.
