For my friend whose baby passed away from Trisomy 13
My heart has been ravaged in the most beautiful way.
You can see how it bleeds as it begs her to stay.
With each fateful pump, tears a little bit more,
and all of my love spills onto the floor.

Leave it be, let it bleed; just a little bit more.
I cannot love again like it was before.
It'll have to be stitched by bittersweet time.
And I'll have to remember you'll always be mine.

So scatter my pieces across the night sky.
Light them up, let them burn, in remembrance of why.
