The Sleeping Dragon

The old man puffed at his pipe, stared into the fire and then spoke.
" Long ago there were dragons. Dragons ruled land, sea, and sky. Dragons,
were the lords of creation." His voice quavered then strengthened.
" What happened?", he continued. " There were the Elves, the First Kindred, then
the was the Weres, Free People the Ones Between the Animal Kindreds and Men. Then came the sons of Adan; Men. "

" With the coming of these, and the Fae, and other Kindreds, there was, " he paused a moment, then continued, " the Wars of the Magi and the Dragons, then the Magi Wars.
and so after much death and destruction. " He paused and sipped at his mead carefully, and puffed once more on his pipe.

" There as a loss of magic, it to this day is hoarded like a miser hoards his coins." He sipped again at his tankard of mead. "The Dragons went to sleep. They were and are the
Eldest Children of the Earth Mother. Rather than harm Her or the other Kindreds, they fell asleep. And they sleep to this day. There are mountains that spit fire or used to, here curled up they sleep. One or to in a place once called Phoenix named after a magic bird, some sleep many sleep in the deserts, but many sleep under the sea, and some are asleep in the forests. They await their Mother's call if She needs them."
He smiled, "And some take other forms and do not sleep".
" But that is another story".
