There was a knock on the door. Kirsten dropped her book on the table with a bit more force than absolutely necessary, scaring her ancient cat Diamond into a near heart attack. “Sorry,” she apologized, while making her way to the door. Diamond, highly insulted, glared at her with his bright green eyes before going into "hiding". Hiding, with air-quotes, because her cat's definition of it, simply involved sticking his head into, or under, objects. Today his chosen spot was under the couch. Rolling her eyes, she opened the door. “Good morning! I am here to tell you all about the new shop-” With a loud bang, that made Diamond actually hide, Kirsten slammed the door shut. “Not interested!” Perhaps, she thought regretfully, she should have waited until after he had given her the name of the store. Just to make sure she wouldn't accidentally visit it. “Diamond, you old fart, come on out.” Nothing. “I'm really sorry for scaring you,” she offered, while crouching down next to the couch. “I have a yummy treat for you.” Still nothing. “Fine, have it your way.” Without looking, she stuck her arm underneath the couch, and reached for what she hoped was her cat. After some waving around, her hand finally touched something hairy. With a squeal that would make a pig proud, Diamond raced out from under the furniture and ran head first into the door. Muttering curses all the way to Diamond, she knelt down near her pet and stared in stunned amazement at the withered rose tangled in her cat's fur. As she reached for it, her attention fell on the piece of paper Diamond was laying on. “The Pet Barber; for when your furry friend is in need of some serious grooming!” |
