Praise the Lord and spew the threats.

You hear them talking smack on Sunday:
“Praise the Lord,” and all that jazz,
yet in among such pious chants
come threats that spew from puffy lips,
and faces so grotesque in writhe
that evil reeks from double chins.
“You will burn in Hell,” they spit
like so much venom from a snake,
or like black widow bite.
These Bible-thumping sycophants
think their election, from on high, gives
them carte blanche to threaten us at will.
A feeding frenzy for the lot, these
“men of God,” who should be fed
the sustenance of evidence,
(yet they prefer to starve.)
(Religion seems impervious shield
  allowing crimes of flippant tongues,
for in any other venue, on threats of
of death, or worse, jail would await.)
Ancient Rome burned such, all right,
and I see why, because
they take reality and treat it like
a lollipop, or like a piece
of taffy to distend until it snaps.
They deserve some pity yes, but also
much contempt (alas, they are
too blind to know they‘re blind),
yet often I cannot help but shout:
“Who the hell do you think you are?”
(A cousin threatened me one time,
and also said Gays should be shot.)
Still, they live among us--abjection
to the nth degree.
Indoctrinated, to be sure,
brain-washed, fearful, closed-minded.
All this because they worship a book.
Perhaps if they took time for reflection,
they would see the depravity
of their own imperfection.
