Carol, the Bride of Writingstein, picked up her feathered quill, Dipped it in her spider ink, and began to scribe her will. As princess of the writing realm, she was set to wed her groom, But she was very worried for she’d heard tales of gloomy doom. Twas said he was a doctor of the most unsavory kind And rambled round the graveyard when he’d something on his mind. He was a surgeon, or so she’d been told, who had ideas strange and weird, She’d heard of unsavory practices and that was what she feared. Her salad days of youth and glee had passed with summer’s waning, Her future spread out empty and grim, with her Frankenstein renaming. Would his monster come with them on their honeymoon? Would her castle parlor be turned into a waiting room? Her biggest worry, by far and away: once her dowry was transferred Was would she survive (or would she be part of) some surgery deferred? She put her pen to paper and listed worldly goods And who’d get what if she should die and be scattered in the woods. Her words were most important and her writing must be given To they who would appreciate should she die, her soul, unshriven! Her jewels, she’d hide, until the truths of her groom would be revealed. She hated having her life arranged and her future days all sealed. Her eyes lit on her wedding gown, all froth, silver lace and pearls: Why couldn’t he be dashing, a prince, at worst, an earl? Her maid announced she had a guest awaiting her downstairs, She finished up her writings and got herself prepared. He was waiting for her out on the garden walk, with flowers in his hand, He didn’t look so awful, in fact he looked quite grand! He smiled at her and she was lost: perhaps this wasn’t so bad, after all. He looked at her with his heart in his eyes and in love she began to fall. “Don’t worry, my dear,” he said. “For long I’ve worshipped you from afar. And you are absolutely perfect, exactly as you are!” Required words: summer, salad, empty, Frankenstein, and spider. Inspired by A Christmas Carol St.Ann 's handle! 30 lines |
