The key is placed within the lock, and we open the door without a knock...
Opening the Ancient Door

What do we see within our mind,
When we look inside what do we find,
We break it open and try in vain,
To dredge around and pick our brain,
To sift the matter between our hands,
And open pathways never closed again.
We dig and dig through doors soiled,
With mountainous heaps of glorious spoils,
Uncovering trash and treasures alike,
Until we find within the night,
A dingy key we thought was lost,
That opens the door covered with moss.

The key is placed within the lock,
And we open the door without a knock,
Until the seal is broken anew,
And we pull it open inside to view,
Of a hideous past we hoped forgot,
But praying for treasures that we sought.
A void at first we look into,
But as our mind’s eye adjusts its view,
We wish that we could close the lair,
But going too far, we’re frozen there,
To close the door we dare not try,
For fear of never knowing why.

Into the void transgressing unsure,
We search the sides and corners, too,
Then in the dark we fix our gaze,
On one black monster in the haze,
We cannot tell if it’s from our past,
For we are caught within its grasp.
It pulls us on and down within,
To bury us under a mound of sin,
The mind we sought to learn anew,
Has ruined our thoughts and warped our view,
Until we try to find the door,
And see the light of day once more.

I’ll never know why this search began,
When all I needed was close at hand,
But now I’m trapped in sad despair,
Encased in memories everywhere.
No path I’ve found will set me free,
Except this one before me I see,
I’ve lingered long and thought it out,
To decide my fate without a doubt,
I know it’s sure; its path is true,
I’ll ponder my plight until I do,
Explode this pain that now is mine,
Cause there is no escape; there is no time.
