I'm going to start today to record on a daily basis whatever happens to strike my fancy. So, it is a very cool breezy day. I just posted 5 short book reviews to The Monthly Reading Challenge. I'm suppose to put away some winter wood today from the woodpile outside but I'm playing hookey from work to write so starting this blog will get done.
I'm having a daily fight with a flock of English Sparrows that are trying to take over my barn. They are making a terrible mess so they have to go. I have destroyed several nests so far they don't leave but they get out of the barn when I am around. I'm just starting the fight so I guess I don't know how far I have to go to discourage them.
I'm trying not to spread myself to thin on WDC because I find so many things that are interesting here and I am trying to work on a new story. I really enjoy sitting at my desk with a cup of tea and reading blogs on WDC.

Groundhog, Phil:
Hi!
reference: Wikipedia
He is kept in captivity at a zoo. Punxsutawney Phil lives in a manmade burrow at a roadside zoo located in Punxsutawney, Penn. His burrow has a viewing window, meaning the public can stop by and observe him every day of the year. He lives there with his wife, Phyliss.
Also, a Groundhog in Canada that is a weather prophet.
Wikipedia tells the whole story. Apparently from German history.

What are your thoughts on the recent airplane and the helicopter in the
DC area? Do you believe there are going to more of these tragedies or less?
Hi.
Early yesterday morning I went to NBC news on my Kindle. A reporter was telling that he had listened to a tape about conversations between air traffic controllers and helicopter pilots and airplane pilots in which; both were well aware of where their aircraft were situated in the sky.
Then the horror happened, and air traffic controllers could not decern how it happened.
The reporter at that time acknowledged that what he heard was not yet available to the news media.
The news conferences I watched later in the day did not refer to or acknowledge these taped conversations. As of last night, the earlier report was actually still listed on Kindle NBC news availabilities as a report.
Whenever, I watch or hear of tragedies in the news I am sincerely in mourning for the lost souls. Their time on the earth was up with a horrifying suddenness.
As to the second part of your question, I prefer to wait and watch.
Weather here is raining on top of several foot of snow. Now slush. Yuk.

Use these words in your entry: February, love, hope, and joy.
Hi!
Quote from "The story if Edgar Sawtelle" by David Wroblewski
‘You swam in a river of chance and coincidence. You clung to the happiest accidents—the rest you let float by.’
I recommend this book as a really good read.
In February I hope I continue to see joy and love in the environment I see around me. Also hope for warmer weather.

HOPE: Hi!
Unknown quote from Bing.
"When the world says give up." Hope says, " Try one more time."
I say, "Hope is knowing what is supposed to happen. Even though, circumstances don't always follow through."
The earth needs some strong sunshine where I live. Birrr!

I inhale the essence of:
Good morning.
Pine is the essence of winter at this time of year, I think. Because of trees and wreaths for the holidays. Pine livens up the household and gives off a scent that reminds of walking along a forest trail.
No scents inside the house full of animals is pleasant. Two of my dogs have hunting genes and are inclined to smell anything that involves other species like birds on the front porch or mice in the walls. They also have exceptional hearing, which causes them to alert when there are birds at the feeder, deer browsing near the house, or rabbits hopping around close to a window or the porch.
Winter still solidly at home outside, More snow in the forecast. After a few years of mild winters this is just not fun.
Keep warm.

Will someone wonder what you've left unsaid?
I do wonder this sometimes. I have taken some steps to fix it by telling children things that have been left unsaid over the years, not always welcome conversations. I have relatives, that have moved on to heavenly realms, that took the time to tell me things I did not know. My grandmother and an uncle especially were worried that I was in need of information they wanted to pass on to me. I have always thought highly of them because they cared enough to speak up.
It is a cold snowy day again more expected in the next few days. Brr.

I made it back but only for a few minutes.
Every New Year is different. This year was nice because we celebrated family Christmas at home this year. My two oldest boys never show up. They are missed.
The weather was on our side, and we had a nice time chatting and catching up on family news on New Years Day. Even the New York section of the group was here. Family left before the storm moved in. By morning we had 2 more feet of snow.
New Years Eve was quiet. This year we just turned in early and woke up in 2025.
Some years we watch the ball drop in NY city on TV. Other years we just watch TV or read until lights out. One year quietly moves out and leaves room for the New Year to move in.
Hope your New Year brings blessings.

Have fun with these words : twinkle, sparkle, ornament, tree, hot cocoa, icicles, snowshoes, and deer tracks.
The snow falling in the evening hours twinkles when it hits the sparkling outside lights. I was sipping Hot cocoa and looking at the ornaments I just finished hanging on the tree.
Outside icicles hang from the house eves. When I went outside to fill the bird feeders, I had to wear snowshoes. there were deer tracks around the feeders and of course the feeders were cleaned out completely as only a deer could manage. Just a quiet winter day.
Merry Christmas. |

Prompt:What books have you read that you find yourself thinking about years later? Write about this in your Blog entry today.
Hi.
I read the Bible both Old and New Testaments many days a week. So, it is easy for my mind to recall passages daily.
I'm presently reading "The Universal One," by Walter Russel. I will probably be remembering it for a long time.
I often remember parts of the entire series of "The Lion, the witch, and the wardrobe." I believe it is an allegory of life on planet earth. Perhaps put on the earth to acquaint children of the hazards they would meet in everyday life. Reading the first book in the series or watching the movies made about it, should never be enough.
I think of "Lessons in Chemistry" by Bonnie Garmus now and then. Or "No visible Bruises" by Louise Snyder once in a while.
I have favorite authors--fiction -- Laurie King, writes about Sherlock Holmes and Mary Russel, All the Hobbit series, and I like Science Fiction about space travel.
Over the years I've read too many to name them all and anyone of them may slip into my thoughts for no imaginable reason. The Black Stallion, The Red Stallion, Little Women, Robert Frost Poems, Hiedi, Lots of others. I put them all there when I was reading, so I guess my mind will mull over them when it is not so busy with other thoughts.
Bye
