There is a point in life where what has happened is lost to what we have since become.

Play pretend
I can’t defend
Who I am
What I’ve done
Why
Under God’s sun
I am doomed
So be it
I’ll continue on
Screaming my song
To anyone who’ll listen
Doing my
Self-defined part
Maybe I’m wrong
Always have been
Maybe what
I should be doing
Is not this
Maybe the tragedy
Of my lifecycle
Was not meant
To be aired
Silence golden
Play pretend
Question
Over and again
Stand upon no fence
Rise against no line
Be as neutral
As an my inability to feel
Allows me to be
Lean in favor of no one
Most of all myself
Point to God
Swear no allegiance
Until he answers
What must be asked
Be prepared to never know
And pay for the sin of questioning
When obedience was required
Fear not the reaper
Fear only his blade
The method and the time
A purpose so enshrined
I’ll be ready
Because I always have been
Play pretend
Madness diagnosed
Insanity prognosticated
Few apples fall far
From a rotten tree
All that I once knew
Has since left me
All that is true is gone
There are only lies
Wisdom wound into tales
There are only stories
Allegorical lobotomies
Self-inflicted
Never to be rescinded
Play pretend
Because it’s all I have
All that I understand
There can be nothing less
Until
There is nothing left…
