Poem Written For Native American First Peoples Group Contest
Mother earth, so parched beneath us,
Great Spirit, hear my plea
Bring to all who roam your fields
Gentle rain, light, fast and free!

Buffalo and bison thirst today,
Horses dry for such a time
Clouds tease our dark horizon,
Play tricks on questioning minds

To be at one with nature,
All creatures make a choice
We understand your power,
All chanting in one voice!

Oh Spirit, don't forsake us!
Caregivers to your land
Whatever fate befalls our souls
Is ours to understand.
