A future explanation of a current "unspoken truth" affecting us all.
Here in 2040, two retired politicians, a Texas Republican and an Illinois Democrat co-authored a tell-all book.
It seems soon after the Second World War the two Parties came to the conclusion the USA was beginning to use up our oil supplies quite rapidly.

And they determined the best way to save our oil resources was to buy oil from other nations. But buying foreign oil when we had an abundance ourselves wouldn’t sit well with either Party’s voters.

So, they decided to show a split between the Parties.

One of the Parties would rally their supporters to foreign oil and the other Party would oppose it.

This way the USA could save its oil supplies without any disastrous political fallout.

Who would promote purchasing of foreign oil and who would promote domestic production was said to have been determined by a coin toss in the Speaker of the House’s chambers late one Friday night. The Democrats won the toss and chose foreign oil. Supposedly, they said it was the spicier choice.

Year after year, the oil companies would find oil and gas everywhere within our borders, and Republicans would argue that we should stop spending monies on foreign oil. Yet when their Party’s politicians got elected, they acted like Democrats and forced the buying of oil from overseas.

By 2040, when the rest of the world’s oil supplies began drying up, we had enough oil to last us at least a hundred years.

But now I have a nagging feeling that there’s already been another coin toss over “Green Energy” and “Fossil Fuels”, and when our oil supplies will run out, the oil companies will have discovered a means to safely harness the Sun’s energy.
