The two Trees of Valinor from J. R. R. Tolkien’s Legendarium are Telperion and Laurelin, the silver and gold tree that brought light to the land of Valarin ancient times. They were destroyed by Ungoliant and their last flower and fruit were made by the Valar into the moon and sun.
The creation of these came to pass when the Valar went to Valinor, and Yavannasang into existence the Two Trees, Telperion and Laurelin are born. Each tree is a source of light which can be comparable to the moon and sun. Telperion has dark leaves with silver on one side and the silvery dew is collected as a source of water and light. Laurelin has pale green leaves trimmed with gold and also has her dew collected.
The trees are a manifestation of the axis mundi, which is a common mythical element where heaven and earth connect bringing the order and brilliance of the divine to earth. The axis mundi is a compass that sets the world in order, balance, and direction. If is hurt or destroyed in any way, chaos will ensue.
