A forgotten gift destroys a child's party. (Form: End Rhyme) |
Forgotten October twelfth; Columbus Day - before they made the days align. A special day for me, I’d say. It was the day that I turned nine. I knew a party had been planned complete with all accouterments. The big event was close at hand; time to open boxes – see contents! I tore into them, filled with glee, but soon I looked up, quite confused. A collar? Leash? What could this be? Was there something that could be used? My brother was supposed to bring a puppy but he had forgot! I felt my eyes fill with a sting; my disappointment and I fought. I sat on the porch patiently as he sped toward our home, at last, imagining, belatedly, what could’ve happened but now past. My happiness seemed to have vanished as everyone fought tooth and nail. Me and my party had been banished in arguments of who had failed. At least the dog at last arrived. Somehow, together, we survived.
