We Lost Her

She is very tired, sad and heartbroken
She decided she won't be forgotten again
Looking across the harbor at the lights
A rainbow claimed this remarkable sight

Everything glistened and made her eyes cry
It must have been willed and heavenly planned
After lingering a bit it was time to move on
She had to say goodbye to so many tonight

As she walked, the cars went driving by
She passed the trees and houses near by
Funny thing is no one seemed to notice
121 miles is a long long way to go

A mist appeared along the edge of the road
She knew who they were and why there
They came to tell her goodbye and farewell
She reached  and smoothed the big black wall.

Stopping to say thank you to Abe
George was always a straight-up guy
Those along the way cried out of disbelief.
How could this time cause so much grief.

They said goodbye to her and cried for her.
They sighed for her their souls loved her.
They did their best for her and tried for her.
They were blessed by her and remembered by her

Why has it come to this on such a beautiful night
She has one more very important stop to make
That piece of parchment belongs to her
Nearing the building, she reached inside

Now she can finally say goodbye.
The last road was the longest and saddest of all.
She began to fade away to the naked eye
Still surrounded by the mist of the dead

In front of the big lawn with fencing around
She fell to the ground breaking into many pieces.
All that was left whole was  her hand holding
The parchment, even it was turning to dust

How long will it take before anyone notices?
Who will feel the crushing blow of letting her go?
What should we have done to stop her pain?
How about the fact we took her for granted for so long?
