Matthew staggered out of the bathroom kicking empty beer cans out of the way, flopped down on the sofa next to Al and looked at him through bloodshot eyes.

“Did you know…”

“Did I know what?”

“Huh? Oh, that there’s a dead girl bleeding in your bathtub?”

Al thought for a moment. “Oh, yeah, I remember her. That was an accident. More or less.”

“More or less?”

“Okay, maybe less, but I’ve been thinking about it and I have a plan to get rid of her.”

“Okay, but it had better be good, because if the police catch you, you’ll go to prison for the rest of your life.”

“It’s really quite simple, pal. We put her in the car and drive her downtown. Then we’ll put her in the back seat of somebody else’s car and that way they’ll get the blame.

Matthew thought about it for a second and then nodded his agreement. On the ride downtown, they drank two more beers apiece. Then Matthew asked Al “Where are we going to find an unlocked car this time of night?”

“Near a bar I know. Drunks always leave their cars unlocked.”

Al pulled his car over to the curb, ran up over it and hit a pair of garbage cans filled with trash. He opened his trunk and the two men took out the dead girl and dragged her to the car that was parked directly in front of them. Matthew opened the back door and began to stuff her body inside when the police officer sitting in the front seat got out of the car, walked around to the back door and watched the pair for a few moments.

“Is there anything I can do to help?” he asked removing his handcuffs from his belt.
