I've always liked the idea that there are those brave few who walk/live without fear.

The path
There
Through the woods
Down by a creek
Across uneven stones
Set as markers
To what
Answers unknown
To whom
Even less considered
Weary is the traveler
The man who walks
And does not run
Through the woods
Calling from the trees
There
Those are creatures
Each one
Terrifying upon the last
Wicked against the next
They will not judge
They will only consume
For them survival
Is not about right or wrong
It’s only about consumption
Sustenance to fill their gut
Calling from the trees
Some of us are safest
High above terra firma
They won’t be killed
But neither will they live
In between they will exist
Bored parodies of themselves
Ridiculous analogies
Used to explain what’s
Wrong with our species
The greatest failures
Of the master craft
Calling from the trees
What is down there below
What is up here above
Both are real
When what exactly is real
Has become loosely defined
The path
There
Through the woods
Down by a creek
Across uneven stones
Set as markers
To what
Answers unknown
To whom
Even less considered
Weary is the traveler
The one who without regard
Has ended up there
Through the woods
Upon the path
Creature’s hide below
As those unsure few hide above
There are some in between
Brave souls most alive
But with the most to risk
The balance of living resides
Between what they decide…
