The African sky burned with red. A sunset emerged from the fading blue of the evening. The red dust from the road below hung in the air, the heat fading. All I could hear were shouts of joy, from behind. The beautiful Ugandan girls, playing ball together. Squealing with excitement, chattering in Luganda. Their dark skin and black eyes glowing in the fading light. They were forgetting. Below the streets rotting with trash, death and hopelessness, which was once home to them. The heat was fading. The evening more forgiving. Yet, in the darkness I saw them. Nameless, hopeless to the world. Wide eyes in the black night. The faces of more beautiful children who still lived amongst the hell. The ones who may never have a chance to forget. For the intensity to fade. Unforgiving. Never forgetting.
