Sometimes the most mundane of things can be the most important.
Who am I (part 3)

I was there when you were young:
Walking on all fours,
Drool dripping from your mouth,
You cuddled at my feet,
You slept in my lap under the sun
As it kissed your skin with warmth
As it feed my body with warmth

I was there when you were young:
You ran around on with such vigor,
Wind rushing through your hair,
It falling on your face,
Your lips curled in a smile,
Cheeks flushed and warm,
You sat on my lap,
You rested at my feet
As the sun kissed your skin
As I shielded you from its glare

I was there when you were young:
You smiled at me,
Pointing up at me and complimenting my mane
As the wind rustled through it,
You tugged and pulled at my arms,
You hugged my body as I hugged your soul.
You smiled at me with cheeks flushed with sun,
As I shielded you from the sun’s glare
As you protected me from the coming tempest

I was there when you were young:
I watched as you brought younglings to me,
They too drooled at slobbered,
They too rested at my feet,
They too cuddled at my lap,
And you smiled at me with your hand on my chest.
You thanked me…
And I thanked you…
For the tempest had come….
As you protected me from the coming tempest
As I fell to the mighty storm

I was there when you were young:
I saw you weep at my corpse,
I saw the younglings hug my shattered form,
I saw the younglings rest at my broken feet,
But I thanked you and had no regrets…
For I was not gone….

I was there when they were young:
The younglings rushed you to my corpse,
A tiny vestigial mark of life formed from my ashes,
And you cried and trembled…
And they cried and sniffed…
For I was not gone.

I was there when all were young:
The younglings brought you to me,
You who have grown weary of body,
Grayed and withered,
You rested upon my feet,
You cuddled on my lap,
And you complimented my new mane
And my new body that I have grown.

I was there when you were gone:
When you fell asleep at my lap,
I felt your breaths slow,
I felt your breath stop…
But I did not cry…
For I will be always here,
I will be here always for you.
I will be here always for the young.
For I love you as I have existed, eternally.
I was here before you,
I will be here after you,
I will always be here for you.
For it is who I am.

Who am I?
I am Tree.
