Crash
Nothing had a pitch. Music vanished from sound waves. Complete silence. My vision became a filthy window, partially cleaned so I see the distorted picture before me. Thanks. An explosion of sound violently snapped my hearing back into play. My eyes closed either involuntarily or by will, my mind thinking it might help. It didn't. A flash of white registered when my eyes flicked open momentarily. Oddly enough, I knew I was coming upon trees. Turn. Obeying, my arms jerked the wheel, tearing the car to the left. Smoke crept through my nose and seeped into my lungs which lacked in giving me sufficient air. Breathe. I exhaled, and tried to breathe in. I couldn't. My breathing became small sharp intakes restricted by the feeling of my ribs being squeezed by invisible arms. I still felt motion. Stop. My foot slammed down meeting only floor. What? I brought my foot up again hitting the brake, feeling it react and hiss to a defeated stop. Tick, tick, tick. What is that? Identical green arrows blinked simultaneously. My cell phone. I need it. Smoke oozed from what was left of the gray mass. I reached down through the chaos in the passenger seat, now cluttered with objects that used to occupy the back, searching. I know I brought it with me. I know I did.
