Sometime it's time to take a chance

There was once a chance I didn't take
to run away from home.
At four years old it seemed so neat.
But, not allowed to cross the street
I couldn't take the chance.

There was once a chance I didn't take
to smile back in return.
She brushed her curls and smiled my way.
I was so shy and on that day
I couldn't take the chance.

There was once a chance I didn't take
to be a football star.
I'd catch that pass for all to see.
What if some lineman sat on me?
I couldn't take the chance.

There was once a chance I didn't take
to sing in chapel choir.
The tenor part was oh so right.
My voice began to squeak that night.
I couldn't take the chance.

There came a chance that I had to take--
that girl I used to know.
She was the only one for me.
She was my only destiny.
I had to take that chance.
