What to believe?
“You can’t kill a man when he has no hope,” When I first heard these words, it was blaring through my headphones while listening to The Offspring. The words hit me so hard, that it ingrained into my brain.

I began to think about those despairing men and women who have nothing else to live for, no hope for a tomorrow. They don’t live to die, but die to live.

“You are nuts,” my best buddy told me once I mentioned my own meaning to the phrase. “How can people possibly die to live? Wait… Emma, don’t tell me you believe in heaven!!”

“I’m not saying anything, you moron,” I replied. But what exactly I was saying?
“It just means exactly as it says. You can’t kill a man who has no hope, meaning he won’t care if you kill him or not. It would all mean the same to that poor bastard either way.”

“And don’t you think that after they die, they hope to go somewhere better? Where they’ll find hope again?”

“Emma… Heaven is the only place there could be, and you told me yourself you don’t believe in such a place.”

“Danny, it doesn’t have to be heaven… what if it’s another dimension where life continues on? Not giving a mind rest from jumping to a new life. Don’t you wonder why people grow so tired of life? Their mind hasn’t gotten any rest from going through life, they want to rest, and hope there’s an end of the line somewhere.”

“You make no sense, woman! You’re jumping from ideas to ideas. Let me know when you stick to one… permanently!”
