Upon a pale horse, a broken heart. (A Stormy's Poetry Winner) |
Upon A Pale Horse The Bible foretells the end of time, when riders of the Apocalypse shall bring forth every type of crime. The world will be held in their grips and "Mercy" will not cross their lips. Upon a pale horse, one called Death is followed by those freed from Hell. His howl, with fetid, humid breath, a sound that carries like a knell, infects the air as hope dispels. I've had the pale horse stalk me though I survived to tell the tale. Death is inflicted by degree as hopes are bled until they pale. The strongest heart is proven frail. The hollow words hung in the air. "I'm sorry" and "This is good-bye." Her look said, "I no longer care." Though tears were whelming in her eye I watched her fight the urge to cry. The horizon shrinks. Here and now is the only future I can see. Love has died. I don't know how as blackness closes in on me. It's a haunting mystery. No heroes and no heroines; only casualties remain. Love is a game where no one wins; to the losers, only pain. I think we all must be insane. Upon a pale horse, a broken heart. An entry for "Stormy's poetry newsletter & contest" Must use the words : hollow, haunt, howl, humid, horse, horizon, heroine, hold.
