It's always a pleasure to stumble across a really good writer, someone who's doing it for the pure joy of writing Science Fiction and just wants to tell a good story. D.J. Burnham is one of those rare folks who can spin a tale that's not only a joy to read but leaves you with a good feeling inside. You also come away with the sense that's he's shared something with you that he's put a lot of himself into like any good craftsman does. Dave's AD Astral podcast is where he's put up a lot of his stuff. He recruits friends and family to do the voices of the characters and the result blows away some of the better known podcasts (Escape Pod) in both content and presentation. He has a rare sense of humor and isn't afraid of poking fun at the genre or his own culture. Check out his site: http://www.adastralpodcast.com/ He also has a Facebook page and Twitter presence. When you drop by leave him a message and tell him Randy from Colorado sent you. |
This afternoon my friend Dave finished his second day of intensive chemotherapy on the second go round with his leukemia. It was just before Thanksgiving last year when he was diagnosed and he spent last Christmas in the hospital. After that is was a bone marrow transplant and a year of slowly working his way back to health only to find out that it was coming back. What Dave could use now is encouragement. His faith and friends have kept him going for this last year and now he needs to have more of both. If you're reading this it would be a great Christmas present for him to know that others were thinking about him and praying for his recovery. https://www.facebook.com/david.hull.967 Tell him that Randy sent you... |
Waking up with a grateful attitude... Seems like the older I get the harder it is to deal with mornings. I remember an occasion 30 some years ago when my wife Cheryl and I were down in Las Cruses, NM for a funeral and the only place we could stay was with her grandmother "Big Mama" who was in her 80's, crippled to the point she could hardly walk and legally blind. We spent the night on her fold-out couch in the living room. At about 5 AM I was shocked awake by a resounding "Praise the Lord!" from Big Mama's bedroom. She came into the living room on her knees because she couldn't walk without pulling herself up on a piece of furniture. Her joy at God's giving her another day has stuck with me all these years and helped me have the gumption to get out of bed many many times. I'm still working on having the same attitude. |
