You were a rollercoaster;
Up, down, a ride I no longer wanted to be on.
So that summer,
I decided I was done.
But you would have none of that,
Told me all the things I wanted to hear,
Said you only needed to see me again.
I was wary,
a voice saying history only repeated.
But you were persistent,
Tearing me down bit by bit.
Said you were happy,
And only wanted me to be,
Until I happily gave in, opening my heart.
Briefly, you wanted me.
But what you wanted I couldn't give.
A pretty new thing caught your eye,
Offering you everything.
What you did, I'll never forgive.
History repeats itself,
And you left me feeling like a fool for trying.
When you came to me that night,
Words and lies fell away.
I realized you didn't give a damn about me,
I was only easy entertainment.
It dawned on me I never knew you.
I don't remember why I'm crying,
So now I'm through wasting tears on you.
